Signature Theatre is a mid-sized nonprofit performing arts company based in New York City, founded in 1991. It focuses on developing playwrights by providing them an artistic home and presenting a body of work for each resident writer, along with a season of six to eight productions each year. To improve accessibility, the company launched the Signature Ticket Initiative in 2005 to provide affordable tickets to every production. In 2012, Signature opened the Pershing Square Signature Center, a Frank Gehry-designed complex spanning about 75,000 square feet, with three theatres, two rehearsal studios, and a public lobby that includes a café and a bookstore, plus administrative offices. The organization received the Regional Theatre Tony Award in 2014, becoming the first New York City theatre to be so honored. In 2024, Emily Shooltz was named artistic director, reflecting ongoing leadership.
