Long before coinage of the term “Digital Twin”, SDI was helping customers make better decisions via Production Systems Modeling and Data Analytics. For over 30 years, our most intensive work has been with the food and CPG industries, addressing problems in manufacturing and supply chains, with modeling objectives of feasibility, sensitivity, optimization and sometimes training. SDI models have been used to focus on reliability, resilience, productivity, resource/labor optimization, capacity, contingency, and end-to-end quality. Today SDI continues its original mission, and in addition builds and maintains Smart Model-Based Apps. Some are global web apps used for daily direction setting by thousands of users. Some are run on production lines by operators via HMIs. Some are integrations using commercial software like Ignition. And some are screaming-fast desktop apps and models. SDI has been a close partner in helping companies pioneer innovation. For the past 7 years it has consistently closed scores of innovation projects with them. These projects span the gamut from AI powered vision apps for detecting quality defects, to API development, leveraging of LLMs, and applying pragmatic ML techniques. SDI has evolved from bespoke to break-out branded apps to serve a wider audience.
