The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) is a uniformed government agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs, responsible for fire-fighting, rescue and emergency ambulance services, as well as mitigating hazardous materials incidents and formulating, implementing and enforcing regulations on fire safety and civil defence shelter matters. It is located at 91 Ubi Avenue 4, Singapore, in the Central Region, and employs between 1,001 and 5,000 staff. The SCDF was established as an independent organisation under the Ministry of Home Affairs following the Civil Defence Act in 1986, and it integrated with the Singapore Fire Service on 15 April 1989. The force has pursued innovations to enhance its capabilities, including specialized firefighting vehicles such as the Light Fire Attack Vehicle (The Red Rhino) and a Tracked Fire-Fighting Vehicle, and it runs public education programmes to improve emergency preparedness. In recent years, SCDF has launched a mass emergency alert system and continues to operate as a professional, round-the-clock response agency that works with a prepared and resilient population.
