The Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) is a professional performing arts company based in Singapore, founded in 1988 by Goh Soo Khim and the late Anthony Then. The company expanded from seven to 24 dancers under Goh Soo Khim and currently employs between 11 and 50 staff. SDT presents five to six seasons annually, including Ballet Under The Stars at Fort Canning Park. Its repertoire encompasses classical and contemporary ballet, featuring works by choreographers and staging directors such as Choo San Goh, George Balanchine, Nacho Duato, Jiri Kylian, Stanton Welch, Marie-Claude Pietragalla and others. In January 2009, Janek Schergen was appointed Artistic Director, and he also serves as Artistic Director of the Choo-San Goh & H. Robert Magee Foundation, which licenses and produces Choo San Goh's ballets and oversees an annual choreography award. SDT engages in public outreach through the Arts Education Programme, the Dance Appreciation Series with Esplanade Co., and One@The Ballet to enhance public understanding of dance.
