SIRE improves the quality of life for people with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding and related activities. We serve 235 clients at our three locations every week. Therapeutic riding helps body, mind and spirit. Physically, in a 45-minute lesson, a mobility impaired rider will experience some 2,000 to 3,000 horse steps. In the area of improving intellectual abilities, riders show increasing abilities to follow directions, remember, and plan. As for the emotional dimension, many children and adults with disabilities live protected lives with few opportunities to engage in challenging activities or to compete in sports. Therapeutic horseback riding provides a safe activity with an unavoidable element of risk and it provides practice in a time-honored sport. Premier accredited by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, SIRE is one of only two centers so distinguished in the greater Houston region. SIRE has 4 of 31 PATH International master-level instructors. including Lili Kellogg, our Executive Director, winner of the James Brady Lifetime Achievement Award.
