SolFocus specializes in Concentrator Photovoltaic (CPV) systems that focus sunlight onto a small area of high-efficiency multi-junction cells using a reflective optical approach. These systems are designed to deliver high energy output in sun-rich regions while maintaining reliability in extreme operating conditions and requiring minimal maintenance, with IEC 62108 certification and a power performance warranty backed by Munich Re. Based in San Jose, California, SolFocus operates in the renewable energy semiconductor manufacturing sector and serves customers developing solar projects in high-irradiance markets seeking lower energy costs. The design emphasizes durability, including robust thermal management and a dependable dual-axis tracking mechanism, and the technology is described as having a lighter environmental footprint with cradle-to-cradle characteristics.
