SOLVE is a Portland-based nonprofit operating in the environmental services sector. Its work centers on bringing communities together to care for the environment and protect waterways, building collaborations among residents, businesses, and other groups to pursue shared stewardship of the region. The organization coordinates one of Oregon’s and southwest Washington’s largest volunteer networks to clean beaches, parks, neighborhoods, and other natural spaces through activities such as litter cleanups, invasive plant removal, and planting native trees and shrubs. 

Annually, SOLVE mobilizes roughly 30,000 volunteers across about 900 conservation projects throughout Oregon and SW Washington. Founded in 1969 as S.O.L.V.—Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism—by Governor Tom McCall and civic leaders, the organization has a long-standing civic focus. Based in Portland, it works to build relationships among diverse groups and to preserve places that define the region’s natural heritage.
