Somerville Municipal Federal Credit Union (SMFCU) is a federally chartered credit union founded in 1941 to serve the employees of the City of Somerville. In the 1960’s, membership was extended to employees of the Somerville Housing Authority, the Somerville Redevelopment Authority, and Massachusetts Welfare employees working in Somerville. Our field of membership was expanded to include family members of the above employee groups during the 1970’s and in the 1980's to include employees of Somerville Cambridge Elder Services. In 2014, we expanded our field of membership even further to include all members of the Somerville Garden Club and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 27. Today, our common bond includes select City of Somerville employee groups, select community groups and their family members. We are proud to serve the financial needs of those members who provide service to the citizens of the Somerville community.
