Founded in 1998 by nuclear physicist, former NASA scientist, and audio design legend Dr. Godehard Guenther, soundmatters originated as a research and development company uniquely delivering much more sound from much less space than its competitors (thanks in part to patented Linear Magnetic Drive and  FlatMagic technologies).

Soundmatters counts some very large and prestigious commercial and consumer electronics giants among its customers and business partners, creating wonderful economies of scale and enabling them to provide their soundmatters-branded products at surprisingly competitive pricing.  The Soundmatters foxL is the first and only pocket-size portable loudspeaker good enough for audio purists and was named a Top 10 Gadget of 2008 by TIME magazine;  and at $199 retail was the only speaker system under $4000 to receive Sound&Vision's Editors Choice Award. In November 2009, Soundmatters provided advanced product solutions to Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel, providing theater sound for both their newest tower of suites, and newly introduced surround sound casino games.
