Its State Park Service protects more than 80,000 acres of land from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the sand dunes of the Atlantic and offers cabins, villas, campgrounds, picnic areas, meeting rooms and equestrian stables. Its mission centers on growing the state's economy through sustainable tourism development and effective marketing to increase visitation and improve quality of life for residents. In 2023 the agency launched the Front Porch Program to strengthen collaboration with visitor centers and destination marketing organizations across the state.
