The South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority is a state government agency in the Government Administration sector, based in Columbia, South Carolina. It administers the state's employee insurance programs and retirement systems for South Carolina's public workforce, serving a large community of members and participants. PEBA administers insurance benefits to more than 543,000 members and oversees retirement plans for more than 695,000 public employees across five defined benefit plans. Each year, PEBA disburses more than $4 billion in retirement benefits and more than $3.6 billion in insurance claims.
