South Coast Repertory is a mid-sized professional theater based in Costa Mesa, California, recognized as a leading organization in the performing arts. Led by Artistic Director David Ivers and Managing Director Suzanne Appel, SCR pursues a mix of classic and contemporary work and prioritizes new-play development through initiatives like the Pacific Playwrights Festival, complemented by education and outreach programs. Since its founding in 1964, SCR operates from Costa Mesa and opened the David Emmes/Martin Benson Theatre Center in 2002, a three-theater complex housing the Segerstrom Stage (507 seats), the Julianne Argyros Stage (336 seats), and the Nicholas Studio (94 seats). The company has produced more than 400 works, including over 100 world premieres, and SCR-developed productions have earned eight Pulitzer Prize nominations, with Wit and Rabbit Hole among the prize-winning works. In March 2026 SCR announced a collaboration with Knife Pleat to offer an exclusive culinary and theater experience tied to select performances of Eat Me.
