We keep the environment clean! Proper Wastewater Treatment protects where you live, work, and play. Water flushed or sent down the drain in homes, businesses, and commercial buildings must be cleaned. If not properly treated the chemicals, human waste, and other contaminants end up in our waterways. At SESD, we serve local municipal sewer departments by collecting and treating wastewater containing contaminants. In support of this essential community service, we process 25 Million Gallons of wastewater a day, maintain 29 miles of interceptor and force main pipes, and serve 190,000 residents and businesses in Beverly, Danvers, Marblehead, Peabody, and Salem, Massachusetts. Processing over 9 billion gallons of wastewater per year, our treatment facility is essential to maintaining water quality in the Salem Sound and local communities we serve. SESD hosts plant tours and educational seminars for schools, community groups, and wastewater professionals, sharing a behind-the-scenes look at what we do and how we keep operations online 24/7. We also partner with Greenscapes' Keeping Water Clean Program for 5th grade students around our service area. Visit us online to learn more!
