The South Florida Hunger Coalition (SFHC) is a not-for-profit organization based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, that coordinates hunger-related efforts across South Florida. It originated in 2001 as the Million Meals Committee under the Broward Coordinating Council and became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2011. Today, SFHC partners with dozens of community groups and oversees the work of more than 75 hunger-related agencies across nine counties, including Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Collier, Lee, Hendry, Martin and St. Lucie. The coalition runs programs such as the Mobile Summer BreakSpot feeding initiative and other efforts, partnering with organizations like Meals on Wheels South Florida, the Broward County Housing Authority, and the Children's Services Council of Broward County, among many others. In addition to mobile and school-based food programs—including weekend backpacks, mobile school pantries, gardens, and food rescue—the coalition advocates for expanded access to federal nutrition programs and provides technical guidance to implement and grow these initiatives.
