Its service area covers about 550,000 residents, 30 stations, and nearly 300 square miles across Arapahoe, Douglas, and Jefferson counties, including communities such as Centennial, Littleton, Lone Tree, Parker, and Greenwood Village. The department is based in Centennial, Colorado. It operates as a regional fire rescue authority serving a broad mix of municipalities within its district. In September 2025, SMFR partnered with AdventHealth Medical Group to implement a prehospital blood program, the first in the Denver metro area and one of the few nationwide.
