The South West Transit Association (SWTA) is a regional industry body dedicated to advancing public transportation. It is based in San Antonio, Texas, and supports and represents transit agencies, mobility providers, and partner organizations across Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. The association pursues its mission through advocacy, education, and opportunities for professional connection within the sector. SWTA runs two major conferences each year—the SWTA Annual Conference and Summer University—bringing together hundreds of transit professionals for instruction, collaboration, and hands-on innovation. In addition to events, the organization acts as a policy and advocacy voice at state and federal levels, working with lawmakers and agencies to promote sustainable funding, mobility equity, and accessible transportation. It also offers strategic communications and outreach support, public engagement tools, workforce development initiatives, and recognition programs such as the Spotlight Awards, along with peer networking and resource sharing to support both rural and metropolitan transit operations throughout the Southwest.
