It sits on the South Bank of the River Thames and includes the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Hayward Gallery, the National Poetry Library, and the Arts Council Collection, along with six resident orchestras. The centre's history traces back to the 1951 Festival of Britain and it occupies a riverside site in a vibrant cultural quarter. Its mission is to present cultural experiences that bring people together by providing space for artists to create and present their work and by offering venues where audiences can encounter bold and diverse performances.
