These ‘centres of excellence’ include modern and well-equipped operating theatres, consulting suites, specialist centres, and imaging facilities. Around 900 surgeons and anaesthetists use these hospital facilities in their private practice. While Southern Cross Hospitals does not employ doctors directly, all independent medical specialists complete a credentialling process before admitting patients to one of our hospitals.

The majority of our patients are referred to medical specialists by their GPs. Our patients include Southern Cross members, policyholders from other insurance companies, self-funding patients, and patients whose surgery is funded under the public system. We contract with public healthcare funders including New Zealand’s Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) and District Health Boards.
