The Southern Marin Fire Protection District is a public-safety fire district based in Sausalito, California, formed in 1999 through the consolidation of two earlier districts and later expanded when Sausalito joined in 2012. It serves a multi-community area in Marin County, including Sausalito and surrounding valleys, as well as portions of Tiburon and designated National Park lands. The district is governed by a seven-member board elected to four-year terms and operates from three stations with a minimum on-duty staffing level to respond to about 3,000 incidents per year. Since 1980, it has participated in the Southern Marin Emergency Medical Paramedic System Joint Powers agreement, providing paramedic ambulance service and technical rescue across parklands, nearby communities, and surrounding areas. In May 2026, the district appointed Tom Welch as interim fire chief.
