SIRE operates a dry-mill grain processing facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa, that converts corn into fuel-grade ethanol and co-products. The plant produces more than 110 million gallons of ethanol annually and over 330,000 tons of Dried Distillers' Grains, with the capability to produce Wet Distiller Grains. It consumes over 39 million bushels of corn feedstock each year, with grain sourced from much of southwest Iowa and several counties in southeast Nebraska, and it has begun corn oil production. The company was formed as an Iowa limited liability company on March 8, 2005, and its ownership structure emphasizes local farmers and investors seeking added value from the processing plant. Within the Services for Renewable Energy sector, SIRE operates as a locally controlled entity that links regional agriculture with value derived from corn processing. In 2025 leadership transitioned with Eric Fobes appointed President and CEO, succeeding Mike Jerke who is set to retire at year-end.
