Southwest University (SWU) is a comprehensive national key university located in Chongqing, China, and sponsored by the Ministry of Education. It was established in July 2005 through the merger of Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University, with historical roots dating back about a century. SWU is among the 211 Project universities, receiving central government support for development and construction. The university enrolls over 80,000 students, including roughly 50,000 full-time, and employs between 501 and 1000 staff. It offers a broad range of disciplines and programs, including 40 national key disciplines, 66 doctoral programs, nine postdoctoral programs, 159 master's programs, and 97 bachelor's programs. SWU has hosted international students since the 1950s and is designated to enroll Chinese Government Scholarship recipients; it also offers scholarships such as Chongqing Mayor Scholarships and SWU Excellent Overseas Students Scholarship.
