Sperone Westwater is a New York-based gallery founded in 1975 by Gian Enzo Sperone, Angela Westwater, and Konrad Fischer. It began as Sperone Westwater Fischer with spaces on Greene Street in SoHo, and the name was shortened to Sperone Westwater in 1982, with an additional Greene Street space later. Its program has historically juxtaposed European avant-garde with a core group of American artists, a balance reflected in landmark early exhibitions featuring minimalist and conceptual figures and Arte Povera practitioners. In 2010, the gallery moved to a Foster + Partners-designed building on the Bowery after previously occupying a 10,000-square-foot space on West 13 Street from 2002 to 2010. Today it maintains an international roster of artists across media and operates as a relatively small New York gallery.
