Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership is a Chicago-based higher education organization founded in 1924 that centers its work on Jewish education and leadership development. Its programs draw on Jewish wisdom and culture and aim to meet the needs of Jewish communities while maintaining a non-denominational, welcoming environment open to all. The institute offers graduate degree programs at the master’s and doctoral levels, in addition to professional education opportunities and a broad slate of public programming such as films, lectures, concerts, and exhibits. Located in Chicago, it functions as a mid-sized educational institution focused on training students and community leaders. A partnership with Northwestern University to offer a certificate program in Jewish leadership for professionals, trustees, and lay leaders of Jewish organizations is a recent development. The collaboration illustrates Spertus' efforts to extend leadership education through external partnerships.
