Squash Haven is a youth development program partnered with Yale University that aims to empower New Haven youth to strive for and maintain academic success and physical wellness, and to forge a path through higher education to engaged citizenship. Squash Haven's Program began in 2007 with two partner schools, one staff person, and a small team of fifth and sixth grade students as one of twenty-one member programs of the National Urban Squash and Education Association. Today, we are one of the leading youth development programs in the city of New Haven, serving 100+ students in fifth through twelfth grades from 24 New Haven public partner schools, and a growing alumni network, with over 79% of our alums matriculated at colleges and universities ranked in the nation’s top 100 institutions of higher education. The program uses the sport of squash, in combination with academic tutoring, literacy development, fitness education, community service, college access and persistence, and career development to empower and make a lasting difference in the lives of New Haven young people. Team members thrive in our student-centered environment that also features individual relationships, a close and collaborative staff and inclusive culture.
