SquashSmarts is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit that runs a free after-school mentoring program for public school students, combining academics, squash, and personal development. Students are chosen for commitment, effort, and attitude—not athletic or academic prowess—and participate at two facilities: Lenfest Center in North Philadelphia and Drexel’s Daskalakis Athletic Center in West Philadelphia. The program operates on a seven-year commitment and centers on five pillars: academic support, squash instruction, fitness and nutrition, personal achievement, and leadership. Strong one-on-one relationships with staff and volunteers are central to its approach to helping students stay in school and on track for graduation. Founded in 2000, SquashSmarts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on youth development through sport. Based in Philadelphia, it serves 6th–12th grade students and offers competitive squash, community service, cultural outings, and other events to provide belonging and a safety net.
