St. James’s Hospital is Ireland’s largest acute academic teaching hospital, delivering a wide range of health services—from emergency and acute care to specialist and residential medical support—for local, regional and national needs. Located in Dublin 8, Leinster, in Dublin’s south inner city, it serves as a cornerstone of the national health system and covers a broad spectrum of medical and surgical specialties. It also houses the Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute, Ireland’s first and only Comprehensive Cancer Centre, accredited by the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes in 2025, reflecting an integrated approach to research and clinical care. The campus unites clinical care, education and research, hosting national centres, Trinity’s Health Sciences schools, St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network and a leading clinical research facility. As the campus evolves, plans include co-location with the National Children’s Hospital and the future relocation of the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital, signaling an expanded national academic health science footprint. The hospital has completed the largest energy retrofit of any Irish hospital and has been ranked among the top 80 places to work in Ireland.
