St. John Neumann Catholic Church is a mid-sized parish serving Irvine, California, within the religious institutions sector. The parish was formally declared a parish community in 1978 by the late Bishop William Johnson, and it is named for St. John Neumann, the first male American to be canonized. Early worship services were held in the gym of Irvine High School and at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with construction of the church building beginning in 1980. The first Mass in the new church occurred in 1981, and the facility was consecrated in 1982. Over the following years, the campus expanded to include a parish center completed in 1996, a youth ministry building completed in 1999, and a new parish rectory in 2001 to support operations. Today the parish supports worship, education, and community activities for its congregants, and maintains a website at sjnirvine.org.
