STARBASE Victory is an innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Pathways Program for Science and Technology Academics. Mission STARBASE Victory provides exciting, innovative, and experiential learning that inspires students to pursue education and careers in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics). STARBASE Victory is a sustainable STEM Center of Excellence that continually seeks to inspire more students, more effectively, through expanded public/private partnerships. #STEMed STARBASE VICTORY currently serves all 4th, 5th and 6th grade students in the Portsmouth Public School system. Our students come aboard for a four day hands-on, with minds engaged for math and science learning experiences. We often hear, “This can’t be school. It’s too much fun!” Every student wears a new T-shirt “uniform” and selects their own call-sign to use during their time at STARBASE, allowing each student to become “special”. #PortsVASchools WHAT’S OUR SECRET? Actually doing things with their hands and minds allows STARBASE students to retain the lessons and appreciate science at work. The STARBASE concept is a unique partnership between the Portsmouth Public School system, the community and a non-profit corporation called STARBASE Victory, Incorporated. Nine specially equipped classrooms with Promethean Board lessons and a laptop computer available to every student make the STARBASE experience particularly memorable. Eight certified instructors with postgraduate degrees present engaging lessons, and students record their hypotheses and their findings in personal Mission Logs (paperwork is important!). The community (you!) provides the funding. Our non-profit corporation manages the program. We have been serving Portsmouth’s students since the spring of 2001. We welcome you to come take a tour.
