Stones Throw Records is an independent record label based in Los Angeles, California, with offices in London. It was founded in 1996 by DJ Peanut Butter Wolf and has built a diverse catalog with releases that have become touchstones in underground and cross-genre music. The label has put out notable projects by Madvillain, J Dilla, Madlib, Mayer Hawthorne, Dam-Funk, and Aloe Blacc, reflecting a history that spans hip hop, funk, and experimental sounds. As an independent entity within the music industry, it operates outside traditional major-label structures and supports artists across non-mainstream paths. Its current roster includes Sudan Archives, Mild High Club, Knxwledge, Mndsgn, Benny Sings, NxWorries (Anderson. Paak & Knxwledge), Automatic, Jerry Paper, John Carroll Kirby, Kiefer and Los Retros. In September 2023, Stones Throw announced a partnership with Union Tokyo to produce a Fall Record Shop Collection designed in Japan.
