Strategies for International Development (SID) is a United States non-profit organization that designs, tests, and promotes methods to reduce rural poverty by supporting farmers in conserving land while increasing their incomes. Its regional approach focuses on farmers who grow common cash crops, engaging farmers directly in defining practices, mobilizing district and community actors to spread knowledge, and conducting demonstrations to demonstrate viable methods. The organization also provides technical assistance to early adopters and works to empower women by improving their public speaking, leadership, and participation in technical activities and business ventures. SID operates from Washington, D.C., with programs in Guatemala, Uganda, and Malawi, and positions itself within the international trade and development field by aiming to create scalable, community-led improvements in farming practices and household resilience. A recent development notes SID being recognized as Origin Charity of the Year, reflecting external recognition of its work.
