The Strong National Museum of Play is an independent, non-profit museum based in Rochester, New York, dedicated to the study and exploration of play. It uses a collections-based, highly interactive approach to education, supporting research, exhibitions, and interpretive activities for a broad audience. The institution houses multiple units, including the International Center for the History of Electronic Games, the National Toy Hall of Fame, the Brian Sutton-Smith Library and Archives of Play, Woodbury School, and the American Journal of Play, and it maintains what is described as the world’s most comprehensive collection of historical materials related to play. Its audience spans adults, families, children, students, teachers, scholars, collectors, and others around the globe, all engaging with research, exhibitions, and related interpretation. In 2023, the museum’s expansion and parking structure project culminated in a June grand opening and earned the Excellence in Partnering Award from the Associated General Contractors of New York State.
