SUISA is a Swiss cooperative in the music rights field, founded in 1923 and based in Zurich. It unites more than 41,000 composers, lyricists and music publishers, organizing their rights to ensure royalties are collected when music is used publicly in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The organization operates with a broad international reach, supported by agreements with more than 100 sister societies that extend protection to about two million authors and publishers. Its operations are carried out from offices in Zurich, Lausanne and Lugano, with a sizable staff handling licensing and administration. SUISA handles small rights, including non-theatrical musical works, concert versions of theatrical works, and music used in cinema and television. It issues licenses to a range of users—concert organizers, record producers, radio and television stations, catering venues and shops—to perform, broadcast, redistribute and reproduce music.
