Sumter County Sheriff's Office, a law enforcement agency in the United States, operates a Victim Advocate program that has been in place since November 2005. The program focuses on crisis intervention and addressing the emotional, physical, and financial needs of crime victims and their families, with the majority of cases involving sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, homicide, or other serious injuries. Melissa Kunz is the current Victim Advocate, on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and participates in relevant interagency efforts such as child death reviews and community task forces addressing sexual and domestic violence. In addition to the advocacy program, the office has rolled out community-facing initiatives, including a Community Crime Map to help residents track local crime and the introduction of a K-9 unit in 2024. The organization operates within Sumter County in the United States and employs staff across a range of roles typical for a county sheriff’s office.
