Its origins trace back to 1974 when Sunrise Publications was founded by liberal arts graduates who began printing cards in a Bloomington garage.

The firm was renamed InterArt in 1997 to reflect a licensing strategy and was subsequently acquired by Hallmark Cards, Inc., becoming a wholly owned subsidiary. In 2005, the business adopted the Sunrise Greetings name, and today it continues to market artist-inspired cards and gifts from its Bloomington base.
