The SunSpec Alliance is a trade alliance of developers, manufacturers, and service providers focused on establishing information standards for the distributed energy sector. Its standards cover major operational aspects of photovoltaic and other distributed energy resources connected to the smart grid, across residential, commercial, and utility-scale installations. Based in San Jose, California, the organization operates with a small team and supports a broad network of members and partners, numbering nearly 180 organizations. 

The alliance pursues cybersecurity initiatives for distributed energy resources, including a collaboration with SecureG to develop cybersecurity standards and a certification program for device cybersecurity launched in 2023. It also provides resources and tools for its members, including an AI Tool introduced in 2026 to facilitate access to trusted technical and industry information.
