Founded in 2012, in honor of artist Surel Mitchell, Surel's Place is a non-profit artist-in residence program that hosts artists from Idaho, across the U.S., and abroad for month-long residencies.  Visual Literary, Performing, and New Genre residents in turn offer workshops and art events to the public.  Additionally, Surel's Place offers art events featuring the work of local artists, and we are proud to offer professional development opportunities to artists on a regular basis.   Annually, we serve over 6,000 patrons and hundreds of artists through workshops, exhibits, performances, readings, lectures, art walks, studio tours, and school outreach.

Located in Garden City, Idaho, Surel's Place is the cultural anchor to The Surel Mitchell Live-Work-Create District, which boasts specific zoning to encourage creativity, the beautiful Boise River and it's greenbelt, a white water park, and other nearby parks.  Since our founding, The District has blossomed, with restaurants, wineries, grocery, retail, and many, many artist studios.  

Having received numerous awards, including a Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts (2018) and grants from The Idaho Commission on the Arts (2013-current) and the National Endowment for the Arts (2019, 2020), are evidence that Surel's Place is a trusted, creative resource for artists, patrons, students, and the community.
