Szostak Design is an award-winning architectural design and planning firm based in Chapel Hill, NC. Led by Principal Philip Szostak, FAIA, we are known for our unyielding commitment to design in a variety of project types. Founded in 1980, our firm is structured to provide hands-on principal involvement in every project we undertake, from conception to completion.

Our philosophy is that, at its best, architecture creates meaningful experiences that connect us to place and culture. We practice thorough research and client-focused collaboration to reveal each project’s unique context and deliver a design that meets our client’s vision. We have been widely recognized for this commitment to design excellence. In 2014 Szostak Design received the AIA North Carolina Firm of the Year Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a firm by the American Institute of Architects state chapter.

Environmental responsibility has been a core value of our practice since our firm’s founding, and we have created a portfolio of projects recognized for stewardship. We believe the requirements of sustainable design are simply the tenets of good design, and we integrate sustainable features into our projects on the basis of principle and best practice. Our team has experience in delivering LEED-certified projects and in measuring the success of a project using social and economic benchmarks in addition to environmental standards.
