Tellus Institute is a Boston-based non-profit research and policy organization established in 1976 that pursues interdisciplinary work on environmental and social challenges. Over decades it has conducted thousands of projects worldwide, aiming to illuminate the links among energy, water, sustainable communities, corporate social responsibility, climate change, and broader development outcomes through integrated analyses and decision-support tools. The institute partners with a diverse range of sponsors—including foundations, government agencies, multilateral bodies, civil society, and business—and has worked at global, regional, national, local, and enterprise scales to shape strategies and policies across geographic levels. In 2005, Tellus articulated a long-term initiative focused on a Great Transition toward a sustainable and just global civilization, emphasizing planetary consciousness, global citizenship, and balancing present and future rights within the natural world.
