TeraSense, Inc. develops terahertz sensing and imaging technologies, including semiconductor detectors that operate at room temperature and can be arranged into compact arrays for imaging. The approach aims to provide an affordable, scalable solution by avoiding cooling requirements and enabling matrix-based detection. The company also advances terahertz light sources and uses spectral fingerprints to detect substances, with potential applications in industrial inspection, biomedicine, packaging imaging, security screening, and environmental sensing. Based in Torrance, California, the organization maintains a small team and serves markets across manufacturing, healthcare, security, and research applications seeking non-invasive terahertz capabilities. In June 2021 it introduced patent-protected terahertz imaging technology, marking a concrete product milestone.
