Based in Austin, Texas, TASB is a nonprofit, nonpartisan statewide educational association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards—the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. For decades, nearly all Texas school boards have been active members, collectively representing more than 7,000 trustees. The organization aims to support educational excellence for Texas public schoolchildren through advocacy, leadership development, and information resources, drawing on about 75 years of experience in public education governance. TASB provides a broad range of governance and operational support, including legal, policy, human resources, risk management, and cooperative purchasing and energy programs, to help districts manage operations and preserve resources for classrooms. In 2026 TASB announced enhancements to Policy Online and launched TASBnext, its five-year strategic roadmap, reflecting ongoing modernization and collaboration with member districts.
