Texas Health and Human Services, also known as the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), is a state government agency that administers health and human services in Texas. It serves more than 7.5 million Texans each month through programs such as Medicaid, CHIP, SNAP, and services focused on women’s health and behavioral health. Based in Austin, HHSC operates within the scope of government administration. In addition to coverage programs, HHSC provides long-term services and supports for seniors and people with disabilities and runs state-supported living centers for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as state psychiatric hospitals. The agency also regulates health care providers, professions and facilities to protect the health and safety of Texans.
