TXOGA is a statewide trade association representing all segments of Texas' oil and natural gas industry, from small independents to major producers. Based in Austin and founded in 1919, it stands as the oldest and largest oil and gas trade association in Texas. Its members account for a substantial share of the state's energy activity, producing more than 80 percent of Texas crude oil and natural gas, operating over 80 percent of refining capacity, and handling the majority of pipelines. The organization serves as a coordinating body across the industry’s value chain, bringing together diverse participants to share information and address common issues. 

Economically, the Texas oil and gas sector supported more than 400,000 direct jobs in 2020 and paid $13.9 billion in state and local taxes and royalties. TXOGA also operates a workers' compensation safety group and engages in public reporting and outreach activities; in 2024 it published its Annual Energy & Economic Impact Report for fiscal year 2023.
