Texas Tech University System is a public higher education network comprised of five component institutions, with campuses and academic sites spanning 23 locations in 20 cities inside the state and beyond. Formed in 1996 and formally established by the State of Texas in 1999, the system is headquartered in Lubbock, Texas. It focuses on advancing higher education, health care, research and outreach, providing its universities with resources to meet current and future global challenges. The system includes Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Angelo State University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso and Midwestern State University, and is described as the only system in Texas to house an academic institution, a law school and a medical school at a single location. With a workforce described as mid-sized, the TTU System coordinates the activities of its five universities to serve education, health care and research goals. In 2026, reports indicated plans to begin construction on two new facilities—the Design Village and the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources building—as part of its asset expansion, with work slated to start in the summer.
