The Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) is a nonprofit organization that promotes, advocates for, and protects the veterinary medical profession while advancing animal health for the well-being of both animals and people. Based in Austin, Texas, and founded in 1903, TVMA operates under Texas nonprofit law and is described as one of the largest state veterinary medical associations in the United States. Its work encompasses educational programs, publications, and legislative efforts that support veterinarians and the broader veterinary community and foster connections with sister associations nationwide. Its primary audience comprises veterinarians and related veterinary professionals, and the organization — with a relatively small staff — addresses issues affecting practice, policy, and animal health. A notable 2018 development was TVMA's release of a list of tips for pet owners to consider before traveling with their pets.
