The Bard's Town is a unique combination of fabulous food and drink combined with a live theatre performance space on the second level.  The Bard features live theatre, stand-up comedy, improv, music, literary events, and just about anything else that requires a little muse.  

How did The Bard's Town come about?  After re-discovering his love of theatre in 2006 working in London at the Shakespeare's Globe, Bard owner and founder Doug Schutte returned to the States to continue his work coaching football (yes, you read that correctly).  He did, however, have a plan: A pub theatre in Louisville that focuses on what Shakespeare was doing in his day: NEW WORK.  

And so The Bard opened July 23, 2010, and has become an indispensable artistic hub.   

Prior to the Bard, Doug Schutte served as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Theatre Association, taught English, Art, and Theatre at both the university and high school levels, and re-defined his life in London at the Globe.  

Schutte has served as chef for the past 6 years, and currently holds the title of "Executive Chef" in the hopes it will lead to his retirement.  He also runs all of the front of house, and manages the bookkeeping and marketing.  Schutte additionally serves as Artistic Director and Playwright in Residence for the 501c3 nonprofit Bard Theatre. 

Schutte was joined initially by Jon DeSalvo, and Scot Atkinson, both of whom were critical to the Bard making it during the early, skinny years.
