The Bluefield Project is a non-profit research foundation dedicated to accelerating the development of therapies for frontotemporal dementia (FTD). FTD is a devastating, early-onset adult degenerative brain disease. There are no treatments; patients typically die within 5-8 years of diagnosis. We fund a highly collaborative consortium of scientists and clinicians at academic institutions in the US and EU to understand the underlying mechanisms of disease and advance therapeutic approaches. We support basic research, translational and clinical studies, as well as collaborative infrastructure efforts, such as the development of a patient registry (ftdregistry.org), the precompetitive Neurofilament Surveillance Project (allftd.org/nsp), and data harmonization across the FTD Prevention Initiative (thefpi.org). Our investigators’ efforts have led to over 200 peer-reviewed publications and significant industry interest in this orphan disease.
