The Engine Room is a non-profit IT services and consulting organization that helps social justice initiatives use technology and data in strategic and responsible ways. Its international team has been active since 2011 and has supported more than 700 organisations worldwide. The organization focuses on building digital resilience for civil society and human rights work through practical tech-enabled support. In 2024 it launched the Digital Resilience Hub, a platform housing tools, resources, strategies and ideas to strengthen digital resilience for social justice groups. In 2025–26 it expanded its offerings with initiatives such as CATio Spaces, a low-pressure forum for discussing cybersecurity, and it produced a structured archive map with recommendations for future archiving practices. It has pursued partnerships and field activities, including collaboration with Guardian Project supported by the OTF User Experience and Discovery Lab to deepen research and deployments, and participation in events such as the Digital Mayan Fair 2026 in Chiapas, Mexico.
