The Fab Foundation is a Boston, Massachusetts–based nonprofit established in 2009 to support an international network of fab labs and regional capacity-building initiatives. It traces its origins to MIT’s Center for Bits & Atoms Fab Lab Program and operates as a US 501(c)(3) organization. The foundation aims to provide access to tools, knowledge, and funding to enable education, innovation, and invention through technology and digital fabrication, with the goal of improving lives around the world. Its primary beneficiaries are community organizations, educational institutions, and other nonprofit entities. It focuses on education, organizational capacity building, and opportunities for business development, operating within the education, nonprofit services, and social enterprise spheres. A late-2022 development involved launching Fab Labs with a broad set of digital fabrication and prototyping tools to support STEM learning in the United States.
