The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, founded in 1984, is a mid-sized non-profit in Ontario that focuses on emergency food assistance. Based in Kitchener, it serves as a distribution hub and works with the Cambridge Food Bank to lead the Community Food Assistance Network, coordinating the procurement, fulfillment, and distribution of fresh, frozen, and non-perishable foods to partner organizations across Waterloo Region. The Network comprises 54 organizations and 132 food assistance programs, delivering food hampers, community meals, nutritional outreach, and shelter/residential meals, with all programs adhering to the Ethical Food Banking Code and strict food safety guidelines. In March 2026, MCC Ontario partnered with The Food Bank to provide high-quality canned chicken to households relying on the Network, reflecting ongoing expansion of its food support efforts.
