The Grateful Garment Project is a health and human services organization based in San Jose, California. It aims to reduce additional hardship for sexual violence victims by providing new clothing, toiletries, snacks, and other essentials at points of service such as Sexual Assault Response Team facilities or during medical and law enforcement encounters. The organization has broadened its scope to include all victims of sexual violence, including commercially sexually exploited children and human trafficking survivors, while maintaining a focus on preventing further suffering due to lack of clothing. The group implements several programs to deliver resources directly to victims and to facilities that serve them, including on-site resource closets and outreach to safe houses, shelters, and group homes. It also runs emergency packs for law enforcement and service providers and supports follow-up care through gift cards aimed at encouraging medical or counseling appointments and access to court-appropriate clothing. Beyond material aid, the organization undertakes beautification projects to improve environments used by service providers and clients.
